La Catrina
Mexican Illustrator Jose Guadalupe Posada first created La Catrina as a way to portray the Mexican socialite of the time; later on, Diego Rivera included a full-standing skull based on Posada's Catrina Skull in his mural "Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda Central." Since then, it has become very popular and one of the main Icons for the Day of the Dead imagery.
